The Maternal Instinct
What happens when one spouse feels the aching need to have a baby, and the other one refuses to consider it, for reasons that may or may not be true? Lillian's a brilliant research scientist, and a supposedly recovering alcoholic, working on the genetics of the maternal instinct in mice. Her wife, Sarah, wants to have a baby. When Lillian puts her foot down, the marriage is in trouble, and friends and family try to come to the rescue, with comic, and potentially tragic, results. Winner, third place New Works for Young Women, runner-up for New South Writing Prize at the Brighton (UK) Fringe Festival. Previously produced in Boston, New York, Louisiana, and Brighton, England.
