Foodportunity welcomes special guest Aran Goyoaga, author of Cannelle et Vanille

October 22, 2012

Sponsored by Washington's Beef Community

A food drive to benefit Food Lifeline (bring non-perishable food items)

Palace Ballroom
6-9 pm

Seattle, Wash. The next Foodportunity, a series of networking events for Seattle food professionals, will take place on Monday, October 22, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tom Douglas' Palace Ballroom, 2100 5th Ave, 98121.

Aran Goyoaga, author of Cannelle et Vanille and James Beard Award Finalist this year in the Individual Food Blog category will be flying in to celebrate this event and to unveil her book, Small Plates and Sweet Treats: My Family's Journey to Gluten-Free Cooking. Aran's photography and food styling have earned her mentions in Oprah, Martha Stewart and just about every other lifestyle publication.

Aran will be available for questions and conversation along with a select group of local chefs and authors in the Palace Ballroom lounge between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

The featured chefs and authors include:

Brian McCracken and Dana Tough, Chefs and Owners of Spur, Tavern Law and The Coterie Room.

Jill Lightner, Editor of Edible Seattle and Author of Edible Seattle: The Cookbook

Leora Bloom, Author of the Washington Food Artisans Cookbook

Judith Dern, Senior Communications Manager at Allrecipes.com and Author of
The Food and Cooking of Scandinavia.

The event will be a collaboration with Food Lifeline in an effort to close the gap on Tom Douglas' goal for the Capital Campaign.  Please bring non-perishable food items such as canned meats, beans and dry goods to support Food Lifeline and its mission to feed hungry people.

Northwest restaurateur Tom Douglas will provide his Palace Ballroom facilities to host the event and serve a selection of appetizers. Additional participating restaurants showcasing and serving bites at the event will include Trace, Din Tai Fung, Art, Phnom Penh Noodle House, 35th Street Bistro + Bar and many more. Vegetarian options will be available.

Foodportunity, created by Seattle event planner and food blogger Keren Brown, is open to food journalists, bloggers, public relations professionals, restaurateurs, farmers, companies and all food-passionate people.

The event will be sponsored by the Washington State Beef Commission. Washington's beef community will challenge you to put on a "blind fold" and experience the taste of beef in a whole new way. Learn about how beef is raised in Washington State and how our local products make it to the tables of fine dining rooms and family kitchen tables around the world. Learn what it takes to make beef taste great from Washington ranchers and experience great steaks before any ingredients are added. The Blind Beef Tasting is fun for your taste buds and a challenge for your beef knowledge.

Early admission is $25 (including booking fees; $32 at a later date), which includes bites from restaurants and companies. Tickets can be purchased through Brown Paper Tickets
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/273178

The first 40 Foodportunity ticket-holders to send an email to info@foodportunity.com will get a seat at the 8:00 p.m. "Speed Networking" session led by Rachel Belle reporter on KIRO FM's Ron & Don Show, where she does a daily segment called "Ring My Belle".
