The Best Man by Gore Vidal
In Honor of 2012 Presidential Campaign Season Actors Theatre Of Sacramento is bringing "The Best Man" by Gore Vidal to Sacramento this fall.
Short Description of "The Best Man":
William Russell and Joe Cantwell are the two leading candidates for the presidential nomination. Both have potentially fatal vulnerabilities. Russell is a principled intellectual. Russell's wife Alice is devoted to her husband's political run for presidency. But Russell had a sexual indiscretion that is alienating him from his wife. In addition, he has a past nervous breakdown to live down. Cantwell, is a ruthless opportunist, willing to go to any lengths to get the nomination. Neither man can stand the other; neither believes his rival qualified to be President. They clash at the nominating convention and lobby for the crucial support of dying former President Art Hockstader. The pragmatic Hockstader prefers Russell, he despises Cantwell, but appreciates Cantwell's toughness and willingness to do what it takes....Who becomes president? anyone at all?
