The Smart Set - Save Me The Waltz
A musical play set on the French Riviera during the roaring twenties. The famous F. Scott Fitzgerald and his young wife, Zelda, are spending the summer with Gerald and Sara Murphy, whose famous parties and even more famous friends (Picasso, Hemingway, Cole Porter, Stravinsky, etc.) make them the first couple of the Riviera. The Murphys generosity and care for their friends is legendary. They help support Hemingway as he writes The Sun also Rises as well as the Fitzgeralds.
In this near Utopia Fitzgerald begins the novel which is the become Tender is the Night. He intends to use the Murphys, Zelda and their friends as models for his novel. What Fitzgerald doesnt intend is the strong attraction his wife Zelda would have for a handsome aviator whom she meets at one of the Murphys parties. As Scott becomes lost in his writing, Zelda sees a great deal of the aviator who woos her with promises of endless summers. Inevitably, the trap is set. Zelda is caught between the deep love she has for her husband and the infatuation for the French aviator.
