The Brain from Planet X Staged Concert Benefit
The Brain from Planet X, with a book by David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel and Music and Lyrics by Bruce Kimmel, premiered ten years ago at Los Angeles City College and has since gone on to play New York and all over the country, as well as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada, where it was performed in both English and French. It received wonderful reviews everywhere.
And now were doing a one-night only ten-year anniversary staged concert on November 7, 2016 a benefit for the Los Angeles City College Theatre Academy. As some of you may know, arts funding for community colleges is at an all-time low and we need to help the Theatre Academy to remain the revered and great department its been for over eighty years. They havent been able to afford to do musicals, but alum Bruce Kimmel has come back several times to do them, including earlier this year with a brand new musical revue about Los Angeles called L.A. Now and Then, which received rave reviews as did his production of Lil Abner two years prior. The goal is to do a musical every year and to that end we are producing this benefit to help raise funds for that to happen. The students love being part of these shows and it is a real learning experience for them.
Featuring a wonderful cast - some of the original cast and some great new additions, including Robert Yacko, Barry Pearl, Alet Taylor, Lauren Rubin, John Massey, Cason Murphy, Sami Staitman, and other great folks.
