Irenas name was Ida Englard, then Kisilewska. After the war, when she married a communist, it was Irena Majchrzak. When at the age of 15 she left the Ghetto, her father told her: Itele, never forget that youre a Jew. Her uncle standing right next to him said something else: No, the other way around. You must forget or you wont survive. Those were the two precepts she was following through her entire life.

Casa Blanca is a small fishing village in the Havana Harbour. The film focuses on 76-year-old Nelsa and her 37-year-old son Vladimir, who suffers from Down syndrome. Vladimir serves as the caretaker of the ill Nelsa. Nelsa acts as guardian to Vladimir, who gets into trouble easily. Their life is a constant conflict: she tries to control her son, while he prefers to spend his time with the local fishermen.
