| Description |
The national nonprofit organization, Fellowship for Intentional Community, is sponsoring this three day immersion into the world of Intentional Community and the evolution of cooperative, sustainable culture at the University of New Mexico, May 30-June 1. We are gathering to explore the intersection between community-building, sustainability and cultural change. Topics will include Residential Intentional Community and Guerilla Community Building, Sustainable Urban Regeneration, Permaculture & Ecovillages. The topic of 'Community' will be looked at from many different angles: as part of peace and social justice work, a life choice to live cooperatively, as a spiritual path, as a laboratory for social change, and an antidote to global climate change. Other workshops will teach consensus, conflict resolution and other group dynamic topics, plus look at economics and development issues. The Art of Community Southwest will feature speakers, workshops, tabling and networking events, and a Saturday night banquet and benefit auction. Whether you currently live in community or not, we hope you will be inspired to bring this learning home and make your life more sustainable... and much more fun!
Speakers will include:
* Laird Schaub, Executive Secretary of the Fellowship for Intentional Community and author of the community and consensus blog; * Albert Bates The Farms Ecovillage Training Center, Author: Climate in Crisis, and Voices from The Farm * Myra Murphy-Jacob, Sustainable Global Leadership Alliance, Green It! * Margo Adair, Tools for Change; Author, Meditations on Everything Under the Sun * Mark Dubois, The Pachamama Alliance, International Earth Day Coordinator, Winslow Cohousing * Tony Sirna, co-founder of Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage and the editor of the most recent Communities Directory; * Mary Lou Singleton, Urban Homesteader; Midwives Alliance of North America Board of Directors; Earth Activist * Ma'ikwe Schaub Ludwig, Albuquerque's own community-building dynamo and author, "Passion as Big as a Planet: Evolving Eco-activism in America"
