Workshop w/Dr. God: Position Play (SF Improv Festival 2012)
Listening. All improv depends upon it. But what are you actually listening for? Position. Brian James O'Connell teaches you the skills you need to find your "position" in the scene and then play it to the hilt.
Topics include: "The Straight Man vs. The Absurd One", "Playing Archetypes" "Mapping Characters" and many, many more. Learn how to play with anyone, anytime, anywhere in the world.
Brian O'Connell is a regular performer and coach at the iOWest Theater in Los Angeles. An acolyte of Miles Stroth (Del Close's "War Chief") and often referred to as "Miles Jr.," Brian derives most of his approach to improv from The Deconstruction, the form created by iO's legendary team, The Family. With his internationally touring improv duo Billyhawk Brian has performed in festivals in Denver, Phoenix, Toronto, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and Chapel Hill, NC. Well-respected as one of Los Angeles's premier improvisers, Brian is famous for his encyclopedic knowledge of minutiae and his insane recall ability/memory (as a coach, he has never written down a single note - ever).
