APHA'S Food and Environment Working Group is hosting a day long tour of the Colorado Food Movement. We are teaming up with Denver's Food Manager, and LiveWell Colorado's Director of Food Systems, Wendy Peters Moschetti, who will show us the broader Colorado food movement in action!
Optional Pre-Tour Activities (On Your Own): Visit Union Station Farmers Market for shopping and breakfast Attend strategy session led by the Denver Food Plan team to discuss Denver's 2020 Food Vision and action plan
12:30: Tour begins!
First Stop: - Metro Caring frontline hunger-prevention organization: Learn about their comprehensive approach including a free, fresh-foods market, food rescue, on-site gardens and gardening education, and other nutrition education
Second Stop: - The GrowHaus: See indoor farming, healthy retail, and a Double Up Food Bucks Program (healthy food incentives) all in one place!
On the Bus: - Western Stock Show redevelopment: Learn about the expansion and food systems programming at the site of one of Colorado's most treasured traditions
Third Stop: - Focus Points Training & Business Support Center: Share approaches to food-based micro-enterprise development at their brand-new cultural education center with an incubator kitchen and food retailing in the RiNo District.
Social Hour: The tour ends with a social hour where we will enjoy food from a local chef using local produce, drinks and conversation about how the food movement in Denver connects to our work across the country and how we can collaborate for systems-wide action.
We will return to the convention center by 7:30pm.
Tickets: $40 per person (includes a meal and 1 drink ticket). Seats are limited.
