Open Hydrant Theater Company @ The Point proudly presents THE SHADOW BOX by Michael Cristofer
This moving play interweaves the lives of three dramatically different terminally ill patients and their loved ones who explore different perspectives of death and dying. The action takes place during the course of one day, on a hospital hospice.
Thematically, the work touches on the dehumanizing quality death imposes on Cristofer's patients. Other considerations are also exploredcharacters choose to be remorseful, engage in reminiscence, confront their disease or exist in a state of denial, or lash out in anger.
Celebrated by critics for its insight, perceptiveness, and humor in dealing with controversial subject matter, This Pulitzer Prize winning play won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1977.

Open Hydrant Theater Company @ The Point's mission is to create an ensemble-based, Equity theater company in the densely populated, yet under-served, community of the South Bronx. Our purpose is to produce yearly seasons of creative works based largely on, but not limited to, non-traditional, interactive interpretations of Shakespeare's plays, as well as other classics and work by new playwrights. Making theater a family experience is the priority. We are committed to empowering a diverse group of creative artists, especially the youth, whose work is designed to educate, entertain and help revitalize urban communities. Our most recent collaborative work includes Shakespeare High Executive Produced by Kevin Spacey and The We and the I directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind).
