Votes for Women (And Other Lies)

Empty Box Theatre Company presents our new work-in-progress Votes for Women (and Other Lies), a devised comedy about the women's suffrage movement in Toronto.

Not your average historical comedy, the show features juijitsu, a food fight, fake moustaches, interactive bits, musical numbers and fascinating historical insights into the world of Toronto feminists in 1914. Join us for a meeting of the Canadian suffrage association- tea will be provided.

Performances will take place at the Fringe creation lab studios (720 Bathurst, 4th floor) on May 7th at 8pm, May 8th at 8pm, May 13th at 8pm and May 14th at 2pm (PWYC) and 8pm.

To reflect Canada's current gender wage gap, tickets are $15 for white guys, and $11.02 for everyone else. Tickets are available here or at the door. At least 10 tickets will be reserved for the door every night.

The show is approximately 80 minutes long.

The earth shakes beneath the tread of common sense shoes. The rustling and crackling of paper sounds like distant fire of skirmishers. From the four winds comes the low hum of incipient oratory like the buzz of angry bees or the first muttering of a storm. The suffragettes are coming!
