Out of the Box Theatre Co. presents DEEP ARE THE ROOTS by A. D'Usseau and J. Gow.
Out of the Box Theatre Company, now in its 9th season, presents the drama DEEP ARE THE ROOTS by Arnaud D'Usseau and James Gow. This Equity Showcase production is directed by actor/director Arthur French, winner of the 2015 Paul Robeson Citation Award as well as Obie, Lucille Lortel, and AUDELCO Awards.

In 1945, a black WWII hero returns to his hometown in the South and is welcomed by the white family in which his mother is employed as housekeeper. All would have gone well if it were not that one of the women of the family has fallen deeply in love with him. On this fundamental basis, the authors show how the hero is overwhelmed by the prejudice that keeps him from being treated not only as a hero but as a man. This deeply moving play, dealing with racial prejudice and slowly changing attitudes, is a plea for decency and justice and an exciting, suspenseful, and holding story that has resonance in todays troubled times.
