Spend the day at London's National Gallery revising the Saints and their attributes and how these relate to the key stories they are associated with. Whose attribute is the rack and whose the sword? What is the difference between a round and a square halo? Never mix up your Agnes and your Magdalene again! The day will also focus on Mary Magdalene and the fascinating confusion behind her portrayal. (Also learn a tried and tested formula for remembering the Evangelists' symbols....) Lecturer Marie-Anne Mancio trained as an artist before gaining a D.Phil from the University of Sussex for her thesis Maps for Wayward Performers: feminist readings of contemporary live art practice in Britain. She is an accredited NADFAS lecturer and has lectured on art, architecture, and cultural studies for The City Literary Institute, Tate Modern, The Course, Art in London, London Art Studies, London Art Salon, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Nth Degree Club, and many private art societies on subjects as diverse as Who's Afraid of Contemporary Art?; Russian Modernism 1900-30; The Femme Fatale; Love, Marriage and Desire in Art; Caravaggio and Redemption. She was commissioned to write and present an online course How To Read Paintings for Pearson Love to Learn & City Lit. Marie-Anne has also written for several art publications (see art writings). Fluent in Italian and French, she lectures on art history study trips abroad to Venice, Florence, Rome, Perugia, Assisi, Amsterdam, Paris, Madrid, and St. Petersburg.
