Chade-Meng Tan:Buddhists Just Want to Have Fun: Joy, Compassion, and World Peace
Chade-Meng Tan (known as Meng), author "Search Inside Yourself", will speak on meditation and its importance in the world's great religions in a rare public speaking event by this thoughtful, funny and brilliant engineer, meditator and Buddhist. Meng's talk is sponsored by the Thomas Merton Center of Palo Alto.
Meng's job title is Google's Jolly Good Fellow (which nobody can deny). His unusual title began as a joke, but eventually became real. One of Google's earliest engineers, he has taught "Search Inside Yourself," a mindfulness-based emotional intelligence course, which incorporates meditation, to over a thousand Googlers.
The New York Times has called this program "the Zen of Google." His current focus is, "Enlighten minds, open hearts, create world peace."
Meng created one of the world's earliest websites on Buddhism. An avid meditator with a distinctive sense of humor, his personal motto is, "Life is too important to be taken seriously."
Copies of Meng's book, Search Inside Yourself, will be available for purchase and author signing.
