Event
Billion Oyster Social Series, Oyster Pairing and Restoration Talk @ Lighthouse BK
Join us for the next installment of the Billion Oyster Social Series event at Lighthouse Brooklyn on Sunday, November 22nd from 5-6 pm. This intimate hour long tasting and talk includes a selection of half a dozen oysters with beverage pairings. The pairing will cover 3 different oyster preparations paired with a cocktail, beer or wine that lends itself to the oyster.
The oysters will be selected by Chef de Cuisine Joey Scalabrino, with beverages paired by Owner Naama Tamir. Joey and Naama will lead the group through a tasting followed by a discussion of the oyster's role in the ecology and history of New York led by Pete Malinowski, Director of the Billion Oyster Project. Finally, Steve Malinowski of Fishers Island Oyster Farm will speak about the farming process and explain why eating farmed shellfish is so good for the environment. Steve and his wife Sarah have been farming oysters and selling direct to restaurants in New York City for over thirty years.
Lighthouse is valued restaurant partner of the Billion Oyster Project (BOP) Shell Collection Program. Lighthouse donates its shells to support BOP's mission to restore a billion live oysters to the New York Harbor. Pete will discuss how BOP will use the recycled oyster shells from the social to harvest thousands of baby oysters!
Oyster Social attendees are also able to make a dinner reservation at Lighthouse should they want to stay for dinner after the event.
Finally, if you plan to attend the event with a friend or a group, please email mwachtel@nyharbor.org with your group members a minimum of 2 days prior to the event. This way we can ensure your group is seated together.
*Tickets for this event are not tax deductible
