Happy F@*#ing Holidays 3!
Toy Boat Productions presents its third annual Happy F*@#ing Holidays, 8pm December 27, 28, and 29 at the Coho Theater (2257 NW Raleigh). This is a show of 14 ten minute or less plays designed to highlight local talent and relieve holiday stress.
Toy Boat Productions is a small, volunteer theater company run by Jennifer Woodward. Their mission is to broaden the appeal of theater to a wider spectrum of people by encouraging everyone to write, direct or act and by making each show not onlyreasonably priced but a benefit for a non-profit. Preference is given to local authors and 95% of the work has never been produced. This show will bring the count of new work shown to over 50 pieces in the last three years. By keeping the technical sides simple, Toy Boat allows more scripts to be accepted, more people to be involved and decreases overhead. The people involved range in experience from those who have been doing this for decades all over the world to those who just had a hunch they might be good at it. Toy Boat has been the first local show for many fantastic directors who have moved to town and allowed them to make connections with a large amount of people at once. The draw for most people is the crazy characters and situations Toy Boat chooses to produce. This year Santa, Cupid and The Easter Bunny are all fighting for their jobs as a corporate suit has decided to replace them with sexier icons in Mergers and Jubilations by local author Sean Davis. Details at 6 by Sha Sha Sassone amuse and shocks while questioning the idea of where the line is drawn between pacifism and protection at a Christmas Eve peace rally. Nutcracker Massacre by Nathan Wells shows just how far a dancer might go for the lead in a hilarious debacle. Also explored are the sordid lives of the reindeers wives, what your Christmas gifts think of you, the private thoughts of light-up lawn reindeer, a very irreverent look at the immaculate conception, and several sides of Santa that may make you rethink leaving out those cookies and milk this year.
This years performances are a benefit for The Bradley-Angle House, a local shelter for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault serving individuals and their families of all cultures, ages and sexual orientations.
