2014, 29 min, Poland

Dir. EWA ŻMIGRODZKA, KRZYSZTOF ZWOLIŃSKI

Frister was born in a Jewish family. After the outbreak of World War II, he fled with his parents to Krakow, where his mother was murdered. Then he went to the camp in Starachowice, where his father died. He survived the camps of Mauthausen, Auschwitz and the deathly march to Mauthausen, where he was liberated. After two years of treatment in the hospital for tuberculosis, he returned to Poland and settled in Wroclaw, where he worked as a journalist in "Word Polish". In 1952 he was arrested for alleged sabotage, and after their release from detention deleted from the list of persons entitled to practice journalism. In May of 1957 he emigrated to Israel keeping his Polish citizenship.

W maju 1957 r. wyemigrował do Izraela, zachowując obywatelstwo polskie.

THE TOUCH OF ANGEL (DOTKNIĘCIE ANIOŁA)
2015, 59 min, Poland
Polish with English subtitles
Dir. MAREK TOMASZ PAWŁOWSKI

This poetic documentary is the personal story of Henryk Schonker, a Jew from the town of Oswiecim, and renamed Auschwitz by the Nazis.  In 1939, his father was the chairman of the Jewish community, whose task was to organize the Bureau of Emigration of Jews to Palestine, at the behest of the German military authorities.  This was several months before the idea of the creation of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.  This chance for legal immigration to save thousands of people has been completely unknown to the world at large.  It poses difficult questions of timeless significance: had Western countries been willing to accept Jewish refugees, how many could have been saved?
