We hope you will have an enjoyable experience meeting new and old friends, bonding over great food and drink, and dancing with wonderful milonguero style dancers (from all over the nation and Canada) to Golden Era tango music played by some of the best DJs in the nation.

Encuentro Milonguero Berkeley 2016!
Dear Attendees,

As our opening date of February 5th draws near, we would like to give you a current update on the stats relating to Encuentro Milonguero Berkeley 2016 and look forward to seeing you soon!

Enrollment Status: We are creating a temporary follower wait list until we get 7 more leaders to balance gender. We are continuing to accept those who register as couples. We would be grateful if any of you would refer skilled leaders to our Encuentro (encuentromilongueroberkeley@gmail.com). If you know a follower who would like to be placed on our wait list, please have her email us at the same email address.

Foodies: While 10% of our attendees have registered as vegan or vegetarian, we will have plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices in addition to our selection for omnivores.

Attendance Level: As many of you may be aware, the Super Bowl has generated artificially high prices in accommodations and airfare for the 5th-7th, making it financially difficult for about 20 of our out-of-state dancers (who would have otherwise come) to attend our Encuentro this year.

Attendee Enrollment: Nevertheless, our current enrollment of 90 dancers with over 1/3 from out of state (including two attendees from Ontario Canada) or out of the Bay Area continues to make Encuentro Milonguero Berkeley 2016 the largest (yet intimate) Encuentro in the nation.

Potluck from our local Bay Area Attendees: We are continuing our custom from our first Encuentro and gratefully asking our Bay Area attendees to optionally bring a potluck item (salad, appetizer, entrée or dessert) for our opening night dinner on Friday February 5th, 2016 as part of a welcoming to our out-of-state attendees. Our Encuentro will flow as a venue over the weekend to visit with old friends and meet and bond with new friends who dance in the milonguero style of tango. For those bringing a potluck item, please email us at encuentromilongueroberkeley@gmail.com and let us know what item you are bringing. For those bringing a potluck item, we will open the door to the kitchen downstairs located next to the parking lot after 2:45pm (15 minutes early).

Name tags: Upon arrival, please check in with sign in person in the vestibule. Name tags will be provided for you in the vestibule at the time of sign in. Please wear your name tags during the meet and greet and when dining.

Seating: We will have traditional seating with leaders on the length of one side and followers on the length of the other side, and couples in the width of both sides. Please leave your name tags at your seat or table to reserve your spot for the duration of the milonga.

Codigos of tango: Our presupposition is that our attendees honor the codigos of tango which can be reviewed at www.tangoapilado.com. For anyone who may not be familiar with the codes of tango -- when reading the codigos, please pay particular attention to the use of the cabeceo, accepting or not accepting the cabeceo, protocol for entering the dance floor, exiting the dance floor, returning the follower to her table, and navigation.

Vision impaired: If anyone is vision impaired, please email us and we will reserve seats in the middle for you.

What to expect: The Finnish Hall has an ambience of Old World Charm and a beautiful hardwood floor, perfectly aligning with the Golden Era of tango. In addition to enjoying dancing with wonderful milongueros and milongueros to the best of the Golden Era tango played by some of the best tango DJs in the nation -- we will provide quality dinners, and desserts, and pour fine quality wine plus Pellegrino and electrolyte bottled water throughout the weekend. Our weekend schedule is as follows:

Friday
2:45 - 3:00pm Early access to local dancers bringing a potluck item (kitchen entrance next to parking lot)
3:00 -  4:00pm Meet and greet w/wine and Pellegrino.
4:00 -  7:00pm Opening Milonga: DJ Elizabeth Garcia
7:00 -  8:30pm Dinner: Main entree by Jonathan y Olivia and Potluck from local dancers!
9:pm -  1:00am Milonga, DJ: Christopher Nassopoulos

Saturday
1:00 -   4:00pm Matinee Milonga, DJ: Ashvin Iyer
6:00 -   8:00pm Gala Dinner -- By Chef Antoinetta DeMio
8:30 - 12:30am Milonga, DJ: Eduardo Lazarowski

Sunday
10:30 - 12:00pm Brunch (dinner quality)  
12:00-   4:00pmMilonga DJ: Marcelo Solis

Parking: There is a limited amount of parking in the small lot at the Finnish Hall, but there is ample street parking. Parking on the side streets perpendicular to University Ave is unmetered and free. Parking at any metered space is free after 6pm. Parking on Sundays if free everywhere.
