LITERATES
Born & raised in Southern California it's not a surprise that Vyz's early influences included some of the illest west coast heavyweights such as  N.W.A, DJ Quik & Cypress Hill. He began by writing lyrics at the age of fourteen and was later introduced to the world of music production.  After a few years of working with different groups, Vyz founded The "Literates".  Originally comprised of four emcees and one DJ, The Literates began recording and performing in the Los Angeles area. Vyz knew that his production was not enough to take them to the next level. Enter A.N.T.I.  Once Vyz met A.N.T.I.  the chemistry was immediate. "The first track that I heard was a track that we released called, "A.N.T.I. ILL". It was just so ridiculous. I had never heard any producer in my area on that level...It was like man, there's the missing ingredient!"- Vyz .

A.N.T.I. (Another Name To Identify) was an up and coming Producer/ Rapper out of the San Fernando area that was determined to be recognized. His production was influenced by producers such as Madlib, Stoupe from JMT & Amon Tobin. "I actually started out as a DJ. That was my first love... well, actually Graff was, then DJing. Gradually I got into music production and was hooked!" - A.N.T.I.

Late 2006, after a few months of recording with A.N.T.I., and a few members leaving the group, The Literates released a seven song EP titled, "Unspoken" which featured a song with Sen Dog of Cypress Hill.

"Working with Sen was definitely an honor for both of us. We've always been huge fans of Cypress for sure!" - A.N.T.I.  With little to no promotion, it was a surprise to them the response they received from a track that was never going to make the final release, "Graff Life". Graff Life was a track based on Vyz's experiences with graffiti and soon spread quickly over the internet. Another popular song, was the track "Unspoken".  "That track was actually made for the other group that I was involved with before the Literates. When Vyz heard it, he kept calling me to give him the track. I finally caved in and sent it over, glad I did!"- A.N.T.I.  Unspoken went on to receive Best Album of the year in the category of Hip Hop/ Rap at the Los Angeles Music Awards and has been embraced by artists and graffiti writers all over the world.  After the EP release, The Literates hit the road hard opening for acts such as Living Legends, KRS One & Bone Thugs & Harmony to name a few.

After a year or so of doing shows, they knew the demand for a full length album was eminent. Vyz and A.N.T.I. began looking for a DJ outside of the group and met J-Rez (Julian Ramirez).  Julian came from the San Diego area and was on the DJ circuit in L.A. making a name for himself. A few of the artists that he worked with include, Dr. Dre & Bishop Lamont  "I first clicked up with DJ Warrior (Cali Untouchables) in L.A.  then soon met A.N.T.I. , heard their music and shared their vision. These guys knew what they were doing and I only wanted to work with people that were serious about this and they were". -J-Rez.
J-Rez proved to be a strong asset by contributing not only his skills as a DJ but also quality production. With what Julian brought to the team, A.N.T.I. and Vyz knew he was a perfect fit.

Early 2008 The Literates got started and created, "Don't Sleep". The LP was comprised of fourteen tracks, twelve produced by A.N.T.I. and two by Iggy Chop. "Iggy Chop was a producer we met along the way in L.A. and now resides in Brooklyn, the only cat that I thought could fuck it up on A.N.T.I. s level. real talent right there!" -Vyz

The Literates
"Don't Sleep" was released early 2009, featured another track with Sen Dog and was labeled by fans as an instant classic!  "That album was like my dream album to make... every concept,  every beat ...just beautiful!" - A.N.T.I.

The Literates continued touring to promote the album and were eventually offered to hit Australia with Sen Dog & TheKottonmouth Kings for a one month country wide tour. The tour proved to be a success for The Literates and gained a solid fan base all over Australia. Upon returning to the states, The taste of success was not enough.

The Literates were ready for more and decided to begin their next project. After a year of work, They released their second full length album, "Blow Your Brains Out" which included production by A.NT.I., Iggy Chop and
J-Rez. They also obtained sponsorship from Hostility Clothing & House Of Stickers.  Currently, The Literates are working on new music with expectations to release another album in 2012.
