Where:
Honey Island Swamp Tours has provided unique, interpretative boat tours since 1982. Our personal wildlife tour appeals to the majority of the population and, in particular, to those people who enjoy getting back to nature. Use of small boats (both covered and uncovered) allow us deep access into the heart of our beautiful honey island cypress swamp. All boats are Coast Guard-inspected; and all guides are licensed, native, professional guides.
Honey Island earned its name because of the honeybees once seen on a nearby island. A tract of bottomland timber lying between the East Pearl and West Pearl rivers, Honey Island is between three and seven miles wide and 15 to 20 miles long. It is located 50 minutes from New Orleans in Southeast Louisiana.
You can now enjoy some of the richest wildlife stretches of the river and of Honey Island... all from the comfort of a tour boat! You may see the alligator, red wolf, deer.....there have even been sightings of the Florida cougar! Many species of exotic birds also make their homes in this swamp....an active bald eagle nest has occupied the swamp dating back to 1910!
Attire: should dress for the forecast weather and wear footwear that can get wet.
How much: The trip fee is $35.00, which includes guide service and lunch. OISS will provide transportation.
Deadline for Payment: If Bad Weather: If bad weather is forecast in consultation with the coordinator, the outing will be rescheduled to a mutually convenient time. If the outing cannot be rescheduled, trip fees will be refunded.
