Hawaiian Fusion

Aloha! It's that time again to get out your aloha shirts and muumuus. The 11th Annual Hawaiian Fusion Fundraising Event will take place at Centre Concord.

This year's show will host ukulele extraordinaire, singer and song writer Bruce Shimabukuro. Born and raised in Hawai'i and a familiar name in the world of ukulele. From a young age Bruce found the Hawaiian, four string instrument to be an unlimited source of joy and happiness. As a teenager, Shimabukuro began recording and touring with older brother Jake, a ukulele performer and recording artist. Bruce discovered his love and passion for the uke and wanted to help others realize the positive effects of the humble instrument by opening up his very own ukulele school called, "Ukulele Essence." It was there that Shimabukuro quickly embraced his own method of teaching music that would keep students of all ages enthusiastic about learning the fundamentals of the ukulele. Now with over ten years of teaching experience and with three solo records, Bruce Shimabukuro has found a new way to bring it all together by opening up his own ukulele center in the heart of Waikiki called, "THE UKEBOX."

Shimabukuro has performed to sell out crowds in Japan since 2005 in venues such as the Fuji Rock Festival, Thumbs Up in Yokohama, Shibuya, Tokyo and Osaka. In 2006 he was nominated "Upcoming Artist for Na Hoku Hano Hano Awards (Hawaii's version of the Grammy award). Bruce is a songwriter and singer of contemporary Hawaiian music.

Tickets are $48 per person or $430 for table of ten. All seats are reserved. You are encouraged to purchase your tickets early for choice seating. The ticket price includes a lavish Hawaiian buffet dinner of such Island favorite as kalua pork, laulau, teriyaki chicken, lomi salmon, poi, and much more, in addition to the great musical entertainment you won't want to miss.

At 4:30pm the Hawaiian Boutique opens with an array of crafts, plants, flowers, baked goods and clothing along with the no-host bar. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the main show is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m.

Funds generated by the Hawaiian Fusion Fundraising dinner will support scholarships and special events at the Concord Senior Center. The center offers enriching educational and specialized instructional classes and trips that some seniors can not afford.
