VITAPHONE VAUDVILLE Shorts Program (1926-30)
In 1926, the Vitaphone Corporation started a revolution with the introduction of its unique sound-on-disc system, and in just four years they made almost 2,000 talkies, many of which are an invaluable record of classic Vaudeville at its sensational best. Thanks to the Vitaphone Project, which searches the world over to reunite the films with their synchronous-sound discs and fund their preservation, nearly 70 of these silent-era sound movies are now saved at the UCLA Film & Television Archive and we'll show you some of the best! Thrill to the syncopated rhythm, hot song-and-dance and comic repartee of vaudeville greats Shaw & Lee, Burns & Allen, The Mound City Blue Blowers, Dick Rich & His Melodious Monarchs, and more. Plus: a special dramatic appearance by Spencer Tracy. Come see and hear for yourself!
