SPECIAL PERFORMANCE...SPHERE: THELONIUS MONK STORY
SPHERE March 15th 2012
Max Garner (playwright) was hosting a jazz show on WMRT-FM one February afternoon in 1982, when the old-fashioned teletype machine down the hall clattered out the news that Thelonious Monk had died. Max has been fascinated with Monk the musician and with Monk the character ever since. The play is a mixture of fact and fiction surrounding one of America's greatest and least-understood composers.
