OUTER BANKS TASTE OF THE BEACH WEEKEND
OUTER BANKS TASTE OF THE BEACH WEEKEND
A Weekend Food Festival in March

You have two options: a $150 deposit with the balance due directly to TRT or a paid in full price of $450.

This 4-day festival was recently reviewed in Coastal Living Magazine as one of the Top 10 Seafood and Wine festivals.
"This festival has more than 40 events showcasing local seafood and libations from around the world.  Festivities involve seafood and wine-paring demonstrations and dinners, cooking classes and a chowder cook-off. Two crowd favorites are the tapas crawl tour of area restaurants and the Champagne lounge, which treats guests to bubbly, oysters, caviar and massage treatments. " Allen B. Bunting, Coastal Living Magazine, June 2008.

Get ready for the best food and fun the Outer Banks of North Carolina has to offer!

The following are just a sample of events that groups can participate in.

Day One
Early afternoon arrival to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Your "Foodie Tour" begins with the Wine pairing luncheon at the Outer Banks' newest restaurant in Kitty Hawk, Trio. Enjoy awesome Panini's or a fresh salad while learning the art of pairing wines with these items. If you not a wine drinker, there are plenty of microbrews to choose from. Oh yea!

Become your own pilot at the next stop, Wright Brothers National Memorial located in the heart of Kill Devil Hills. See where on a cold day, December 17, 1903, Wilbur and Orville Wright changed the world forever at their powered airplane, the "Wright Flyer", skimmed over the sands of the Outer Banks for 12 seconds before returning to the ground. See the new flight museum which still has exhibits from the  First Flight Centennial Celebration;

Check into your oceanfront accommodations. Take a walk on the beach to find your own Sea  treasure. The beaches are riddled with shells of many beautiful varieties.

Our next "Foodie" event will be the Manteo Tapas Crawl. Participating restaurants will offer tapas style offerings for our party and other patrons as they stroll through Manteo's downtown waterfront. The crawl includes tapas fare and one drink coupon at each participating restaurant. Currently has 4 restaurants participating. Server gratuities are not included in the pricing.

Day Two
Today's adventure takes you up to the northernmost Outer Banks.

Visit the lighthouse that stands apart in North Carolina for having a rich beautiful unpainted brick finish. The Currituck Beach Lighthouse at Currituck Heritage Park was built in 1874. This lighthouse stands 158 feet tall and is considered the architectural twin of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.

Also on the grounds is the original Lightkeepers' Residence: a beautiful Victorian dwelling restored recently by the Outer Banks Conservationists and on the National Register of Historic Places.

Next, we will walk over the to see one of the area's most magnificent attractions, the Whalehead Club at Currituck Heritage Park. This stop affords a romantic trip back in time to an era of lavish accommodations and elaborate ornamentation. A 1925 restored historic house museum built as private residence by wealthy Philadelphia industrialist Edward Collings-Knight, Jr. Mr. Knight built this artnouveau styled home for he and his wife who were avid water fowl hunters. Guided tour included.

Relaxation, Walking and Shopping on your own in the heart of Duck, NC. Characterized by locally owned quaint boutiques and unique restaurants. Come and find out why this sportsman's paradise has become a vacation hot spot.

This afternoon, we will participate in the most popular event of the Taste of the Beach Foodie Weekend, the Outer Banks Annual Chowder Cook-off. Taste samplings of hot seafood or non-seafood chowders from locally owned restaurants. Be a judge! Chowders are judged on creativity, taste and people's choice.

Head back to your accommodations to rest and relax before our next event.

Let's eat a traditional coastal North Carolina dinner at Kelly's Outer Banks Restaurant and Tavern.Diners will savor a special menu featuring traditional northeastern NC cuisine including oysters, 5 toppings, pork loin, vegetables, dessert and Kelly's Signature Sweet Potato Biscuits.

Ease into your Sunday morning before you leave, take a stroll on the beach and breath in the ocean air before departing.

Today's first stop takes us over to the Downtown Manteo Waterfront. Chock full of unique boutiques and locally owned restaurants and sandwich shops. Just across from Downtown Manteo you'll see the  Roanoke Island Festival Park.

Take the walking bridge over to Festival Park to acquaint yourself with the history of the first settlers on the Outer Banks such as the Native Americas and the English explorers. Lunch and Park Admission are on your own.

Our last stop for the weekend is to the Elizabethan Gardens. Did you know that the Elizabethan Gardens is a subsidiary of the Garden Club of North Carolina and is a tribute to the Lost Colony? The Gardens contain over 500 different species of plants and has one of the largest collections of marble statuary.

Featured plant collections include hydrangeas, camellias, roses, historic herbs and a wide variety of native coastal species. The tour will include a guide to take you through the Gardens with an emphasis on the herb garden as well as a behind the scenes sneak peak of their Greenhouses.

Our  program is called "Going Green with Herbs".
We hope you learn everything you ever wanted to know about the Outer Banks way of cooking, life and fun in general. You'll leave ready to take the best of what you learn and practice at home!

Depart for home with a history discussion of North Carolina & the Triangle, rest or some trivia!

Please contact us ASAP if all guest seats are sold as we may have cancelations.
