"Les Romanesques" a play by Edmond Rostand
GSC Chapel Theatre Seattle, WA
"Les Romanesques" is a romantic play written by Rostand when naturalism was more in vogue, at the end of the 19th century. It's written in French Alexandrine verse and so it's nearly impossible to translate and maintain the rhyme and rhythm. The translation by Henderson Dangerfield Norman, which we are staging, is in English iambic pentameter. We are also staging the original French. This production consists of act one of "Les Romanesques" in French, followed by the same act in English (after a short intermission). "The Fantasticks," Broadway's longest running play, is based on "Les Romanesques." Professor of French Scott Taylor is directing Colton Carothers (Percinet), Kady Douglas* (Straforella), Ronald Holden (Pasquinot), David Klein* (Bergamin) and Darian Lindle (Sylvette)in this bilingual production. The father's of two star-crossed lovers have forbidden them to marry...or have they?
