Blogging 101: Creating and Writing Your Own Blog 2 day workshop for Writers, Artists and Entrepreneurs Saturday Feb 11, Sunday Feb 12 11am-2:30pm Oakland, CA (location provided upon registration)
Are you an author or artist interested in blogging, or other social media and how they can support the publicity of your work, but don't know where to start?
This two day interactive workshop will teach you how to start up, brand and maintain your own web blog in Wordpress and will give you specific information about twitter and other social media platforms. By the time you leave, you will have your new blog, will know how to create posts, load images, videos and links. You will also learn how to focus the topic or idea of your blog to attract readers, fans or clients. This workshop is for the casual, potential professional or anyone with no experience at ALL interested in just starting up, but doesn't know anything about blogging or the language of twitter or other social media technology.
Please come with your own laptop and one or a few ideas about what you think you want to blog about.
Day One: -Discuss and brainstorm your personal blog / media needs -How to get readers & grow readership -Understanding and Using Twitter as a way to get readers -Why this media is important to publishing -How to do this and still accomplish your writing goals - Setting up your site and basic Wordpress mechanics
Day Two: (appropriate also for those who have taken the 1 day in the past) -Learn detailed technological mechanics of Wordpress -Setting up an editorial schedule -Learn detailed mechanics of Twitter -Posting Videos, Images, Polls
Other Workshop Details Fee: $150.00, or $75.00 for one day This workshop is limited to 8-10 participants. Located in Oakland, CA (4 blocks from a BART station)
** Please note - Day 2 is being offered for those people who have taken Day 1 in the past and want more time doing these things. Day 1 participants will have much of Day 2 content, but in much less detail, as more time is spent on conceptual development.
Workshop Facilitator: Lisa Marie Rollins Lisa Marie is a Writer and Educator. She is the author of the long running "A Birth Project" blog, and is a poet and playwright. She has been teaching & work shopping writing for over 10 years and was the 2010-2011 Poet in Residence at UC Berkeley's Poetry for the People. She is most recently published in "Other Tongues: Mixed Race Women Speak Out" and "River, Blood, Corn: A Literary Journal".
