Hilltop's Institute Evening Discussion Series Presents:

It Takes Two (Baby):
A Collaboration Between Teacher and Therapist
Wednesday, November 18th
Facilitated by Heather Schuman and Michelle Sanders

Listen to the story of an occupational therapist and a classroom teacher who have partnered to support children and their families. With a shared commitment to play-based learning, reflective practices, and family engagement, Heather and Michelle will examine the unique perspective they each bring to the educational team. The presentation will detail setting goals for the child and the advantages and challenges that are inherent in the therapist/teacher relationship. Michelle and Heather will present practical strategies to use in the classroom and invite you to consider how this model might look in your learning environment.

Heather D. Schuman is an occupational therapist specializing in family-based pediatric intervention. Her approach emphasizes working collaboratively with teams of developmental and learning specialists. Heather's work pays particular attention to the development of sensory and motor skills in conjunction with cognitive processing and social communication.

Michelle Sanders is an early childhood educator at Hilltop Children's Center. Her strong values around learning in relationship inform the culture and practices of her teaching team and classroom.
