Artist Space Assistance Program Workshop
Are you an artist or arts group
- Excited to invest more time in your art-making but don't have the space?
- Baffled by leases, code requirements, and other real estate issues?
- Looking for a permanent home for your organization?
- Worried about losing the space you are in?

ASAP Workshop is for artists, arts administrators, and arts business people who want a long-term space to create and present their art.

The ASAP Workshop will take place in the Bertha Knight Landes room at City Hall on January 7, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Artist Space Assistance Program (ASAP) is a pilot program of the Seattle Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs administered by Shunpike with support from 4Culture. ASAP is for artists working in all genres and arts groups seeking long-term affordable arts space. ASAP grew out of community concerns related to the recent loss of artist studio space in Pioneer Square to make way for construction of the Highway 99 tunnel. Artists working in Pioneer Square and the Chinatown-International District will receive priority for participation in the ASAP Pilot Group. During this Pilot program, Shunpike will assess artist needs and space opportunities, offer direct services to artists and arts groups and develop a model for expanding the program.

This free workshop is open to all who register. The workshop begins with Welcoming Remarks from Frank Video, Legislative Advisor, Office of Councilmember Nick Licata, followed by an overview of commercial real estate issues for artists presented by commercial real estate broker, Richard Hesik. Then, onto small roundtable discussions where artists will work with facilitators from Shunpike's Arts Business Clinic to raise and address common issues and opportunities.

If you haven't already filled out an Artist Space Survey, please do so here:

Your response is an important part of helping us determine current space needs for artists and arts groups. The Artist Space Survey will ask if you want to be considered for the ASAP pilot group, which will focus on cultural space in Pioneer Square and the Chinatown-International District. The pilot group will receive additional planning and relocation assistance in January and February 2012. Shunpike work with artists and organizations in the pilot group to address immediate and near-term space needs. The goal is to extend the program in 2012, so please do not hesitate to apply now and stay tuned for future ASAP news.
