Washington Youth Garden Strolling Supper
UPDATE: Early Bird prices for the Strolling Supper have been extended to Friday, August 28.
The Washington Youth Garden Strolling Supper features great food from local chefs and restaurants, live music, and fresh recipes from the Washington Youth Garden. This is the Washington Youth Garden's major annual fundraising event. Though this event WYG seeks to raise funds to support its programs and expand its mission; as well as engage and connect with our community, reach new volunteers and supporters, and highlight our programs, initiatives and efforts to continuously make the communities we serve healthier.
We are celebrating our Garden at a fabulous new location this year at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery (702 8th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20068) on September 16 from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.
The list of fabulous silent auction items is growing! This year, the Strolling Supper will feature a silent action with a variety of exciting prizes, including but not limited to: A romantic stay and dinner for two at the Tabard Inn; Four DC United tickets; A 930 Club gift certificate; Home landscape consultation with Arboretum horticulturist Bradley Evans; ... and more on the way!
Our staff and volunteers have been hard at work in harvesting fresh and wholesome ingredients from the garden, pickling and preserving for the Strolling Supper. We are featuring: pickled okra, dilly beans, spicy jams, peach and raspberry preserves, and honey.
Herb biscuits will be provided at the garden tasting stations as you stroll through the event.
WYG is also concocting a signature drink with ingredients from the garden. Stay tuned as we finalize our creation (Available from opening to 6:30 p.m.)
And while you're noshing away, you will be enjoying the sweet sounds of Notes from the Underground (5:00 - 6:30 p.m.) and The Rungs (7:00 - 8:00 p.m.).
About the Washington Youth Garden Founded in 1971, Washington Youth Garden (WYG) is located on the grounds of the U.S. National Arboretum, providing unique, year-round environmental science and food education programs for D.C. youth and their families. The WYG is the principal public outreach and education program of the Friends of the National Arboretum (FONA), which supports the mission of the National Arboretum. WYG uses the garden as a living classroom, and facilitates hands-on science learning, inspires environmental stewardship and cultivates healthy food choices in youth and families. Each year, WYG serves more than 4,500 District students with quality educational programming that includes the establishment and care of school gardens.
