Country+City Family Farm Day
It takes a village to run a family farm, and you're part of ours! Come to the farm on Sunday, October 16 and meet the many families that plant, harvest, pack and deliver it from the fields in Ranger to you.
It's a way for all of the rural families who make up our farm to meet the city families who enjoy the food .... and for the families who have been eating our food to see and learn more about where it comes from. We're extending the love by raising a little money to benefit Atlanta's wider local food community through Slow Food Atlanta and Wholesome Wave Georgia.
What's in store? You can partake in some delicious pork BBQ prepared by our favorite pit master. Or take a hayride around the farm with Wes. Some of our culinary friends will be sharing practical tips that families can use to stretch a limited food budget. Or just kick back on your picnic blanket while you make new friends and enjoy some live music from our neighbors in the Little Country Giants.
Bring a picnic blanket or something to sit on, your own beverages, a dish to share, and an appetite to explore. Keep in mind that we're professional farmers and not professional tour guides; we've structured the day to offer you a variety of self-serve opportunities, and you can always ask us any questions, or just take a nice long walk in the country. All of the families connected with the farm will have name badges on so you can pick us out of a crowd. Heck, you can even bring your own musical instruments and join in the jam, or bring some jam (or other food or beverage) to share.
Advance "ticket" sales help us get an accurate count for the day; 100% of the ticket sales will be donated to the Slow Food Atlanta Terra Madre Fund (to help local farmers make the pilgrimage to the paradigm-shifting biennial Terra Madre conference in 2012) and to Wholesome Wave Georgia, a foundation that doubles EBT and WIC dollars at area farmers markets, making locally grown, organic food affordable for more families. We've benefited from both organizations, as past delegates to Terra Madre, and by selling our food at area farmers markets that participate in Wholesome Wave's program.
