Killing Kasztner: The Jew Who Dealt With Nazis
In 1944, Rezső Kasztner saved over 1,600 Jewish lives by negotiating with Eichmann in Nazi-occupied Hungary, and may have saved tens of thousands of more lives. As a post-war émigré to Israel, he was vilified for this extraordinary act. In 1954, an inflammatory and politically divisive trial that began as a libel case with Kasztner as plaintiff turned against him, condemning him as a Nazi collaborator who sold his soul to the devil. In 1957, Kasztner was gunned down on his own doorstep by an extremist. Based on eight years of research, this penetrating film skillfully interweaves archival material and features moving interviews with his assassin and his family, who still strive to restore his name.
