Church and State
First United Methodist Church Portland, OR
The separation of church and state is a political and legal doctrine that states government and religious institutions are to be kept separate and independent of one another. The term most often refers to the combination of two principles: secularity of government and freedom of religious exercise. For hundreds of years, there has been a distinct difference in the music of the sacred and secular genres. This performance will explore the musical side of these two contrasting elements and musically explore the differences and similarities that these two genres share. Featuring the music of Jenkins, Milhaud, Tull, Mailman, and Sousa. Please join the Rose City Gay Freedom Band as we explore Church and State.
