Slow Food Alameda Walking Garden Tour and $5 Challenge Dinner
As we have previously announced, Slow Food USA has designated September 17 as our National Day of Action and this year it is the $5 challenge. This means, that we are challenging ourselves to eat according to our good, clean and fair food values for $5 a plate. And for Slow Food Alameda, we would like to celebrate our wonderful Indian summer on our island with a Walking Garden Tour capped off by a dinner which will showcase the best our season offers keeping in the $5 per person challenge.
The Walking Garden Tour will feature the home gardens of four (4) residents, all within a short, walkable, or bikeable distance of each other. The tours will start at 3:00 p.m. promptly, so we suggest arriving and parking at the end point at 2:45pm, and then walking to our first host's home garden. The tours will last from 3:00 p.m. with the final garden tour at our dinner location at 4:45pm. Dinner is served at 5:00pm by one of our local chefs, who will create something wonderful according to our $5 per plate guidelines. You may, of course, attend the dinner only at 5pm sharp.
Tickets for this event will be $10 per person. This ticket includes both the walking tour as well as the dinner afterward, and a raffle ticket for prizes during the dinner event. As usual, a no-host beer and wine bar will be offered as well. Maps and locations will be provided at the time of ticket purchase.
What you MUST bring:
Utensils, plates, cups, napkins, all washable, that you bring and take home in keeping with sustainable practices.

Your own suggestions, stories and recipes around your own efforts for the $5 challenge.
Cash for the no-host bar (however, some kind of water will be served with dinner).
