Sweet Mud
San Jose Jewish Film Festival San Jose, CA
The kibbutz movement was conceived as a utopian society that would furnish all its members' needs. This Bergmanesque film dissects that movement and shows its darker side, one that is unable, or perhaps unwilling, to make accommodations for those who fail to conform to its rigid standards of approved behavior. This story is set against the valiant efforts of an adolescent boy to nurture the troubled spirits of his clinically depressed and widowed mother.
