An Evening with Jane Hirshfield, Sponsored by Poetry Center San Jose
Poetry Center San Jose is pleased to present an evening of poetry with Jane Hirshfield (October 6, 7:00 p.m., Le Petit Trianon in San Jose). Hirshfield's latest book of poems, Come, Thief, will be released in August 2011.
Her collection After was named a "best book of 2006" by The Washington Post; Given Sugar, Given Salt was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Hirshfield has also written a book of essays, Nine Gates: Entering the Mind of Poetry, and she was a co-translator of poems by two classical-era Japanese women poets, The Ink Dark Moon.
Don't miss this opportunity to see Jane Hirshfield, who unites the vision and sensibility of a poet, translator, editor, and teacher, and who brings to her perception and work literary training from Princeton University, Zen training and practice (having been ordained in the Soto Zen tradition) and the poetic activism of a contributor to poetry conferences and festivals world wide.
