Engaging, Motivating, Inspiring Men
The 18th Annual Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council Conference explores the cutting-edge topic of the role of men in domestic violence prevention. The conference spotlights programs and interventions that promote nonviolence, healthy relationships, the importance of fatherhood, men as leaders and coaches, and how to engage men in order to break the cycle of violence. Our Keynote and Plenary speakers are two nationally recognized experts on working with men: LUNDY BANCROFT's work focuses on three areas: 1) Training professionals on best practices for intervening with male perpetrators of violence against women. 2) Training professionals on the dynamics of emotional injury and recovery in children who are exposed to a man who abuses their mother. 3) Supporting healing and empowerment for abused women. JERRY TELLO's work focuses on family strengthening, therapeutic healing, cross cultural issues and motivational speaking.
The goal of the conference is to provide attendees with an understanding of the central role that men must play in the eradication of domestic violence. This includes a full understanding of the services men need to remediate abusive behavior, the importance of fatherhood, the role of culture and community in promoting non-violence, and the many ways that court systems, the mental health community and advocates for victims can support the role of men, knowing that to do so is to increase the safety of women and children.
Conference sessions will explore: -the importance of fathers in the lives of children and how abuse compromises healthy parenting -the role of culture and community in shaping positive models of masculinity and relationships -techniques that are most effective for remediating abusive behavior and promising practices that promote non-violence -the role our court systems and service providers play in connecting men to the services and encouraging greater cooperation from men, as fathers and partners -how the DV community can engage men as partners in the movement to eradicate domestic violence
