Little Book
It's the late 1930s. E.B. White is doing everything but finishing the first draft of Stuart Little. His wife, Katharine, is trying to adjust to life in the backwoods of Maine, far from her high powered job as the first female editor at the New Yorker. And Anne Carroll Moore, from behind the walls of her children's library empire at the New York Public Library, is not at all sure she approves of what's going on outside. As part of her campaign as the first and most influential American children's librarian, Moore pressed White, then best known as the voice of the New Yorker, to write a children's book. But when White finally produced his now-beloved Stuart Little, Moore was appalled, declaring the book the "product of a sick mind." And she tried to sink the book. Why?
Little Book is a play about the written word. That is: it's about procrastination, disappointment, hypochondria, unrequited love, and blind hope. It's about why the semicolon is way sexier than the dash. And why children's literature matters.
In keeping with for/word's creative technique, Little Book is built entirely out of the real writings of its central characters.
Written by Jennifer Schlueter Directed by John Schmor Starring: Peach Pittenger, Christopher Roche, and Christina Ritter Produced by the for/word company
