THE ORPHANS
TeatroStageFest 2011, New York's Premier Latino Theater Festival is proud to present THE ORPHANS
ENGLISH: In this futuristic world where the country has turned to violence to ensure its survival, a man joins a subversive militia. His only contact is a female agent who dwells day and night inside a converted phone booth. In spite of their inability to have physical contact, the two characters find themselves drawn to each other in the lonely and apocalyptic city where they must choose between happiness and their convictions.
Karina Casiano has been on the forefront of New York's fringe theater movement since the mid 1990's as a multi-faceted performance artist, singer, dancer, actor, director and playwright. With The Orphans, Ms. Casiano has crafted a poetic and sensual love story set in the year 2020.
La Criatura Theater is one of three companies featured in this year's Festival that will travel to São Paulo, Brazil, in late summer to participate in TeatroStageFest's first Latino International Theater Festival of New York, Inc. - SESC-SP
SPANISH: En este mundo futurista en el que el país debe recurrir a la violencia para asegurarse su sobrevivencia, un hombre se enlista a una milicia subversiva. Su único contacto con el grupo es a través de una agente que habita día y noche en una especie de cabina telefónica. A pesar de que los dos personajes no pueden tener contacto físico, se ven atraídos el uno al otro en medio de una ciudad apocalíptica y solitaria, donde deben elegir entre la felicidad y sus convicciones.
Karina Casiano ha estado en la vanguardia del movimiento teatral de Nueva York desde mediados de 1990 como artista con múltiples facetas: cantante, bailarina, actriz, directora y dramaturga. Con la puesta en escena de The Orphans, Karina Casiano ha creado una sensual y poética historia de amor que transcurre en el año 2020.
La Criatura Theater es una de tres compañías presentadas este en TeatroStageFest 2011 que viajarán a São Paulo, Brasil, a fines del verano para participar en la primera Alianza Internacional de Intercambio Cultural entre Latino International Theater Festival of New York, Inc. y SESC-São Paulo.
