Sonoma - Program 2, Midsummer Mozart Festival
Program 2, Saturday July 23, 2011
Symphony No.20 in D Clarinet Concerto in A, Mark Brandenburg "Non temer, amato bene" for Tenor with Violin obligato, Chris Bengochea and Robin Hansen Symphony No. 39 in E flat
For our second week we are presenting the most beautiful clarinet concerto ever written, with one of the Bay Area's finest clarinetists, Mark Brandenburg. But, in addition, there are two much less frequently heard works: the charming and precocious Symphony No. 20 and a different version of "non temer" from the one heard last week. We finish the festival with one of the celebrated set of three symphonies Mozart wrote in his last years, the revolutionary and dramatic Symphony No. 39, without a doubt, one of the greatest orchestral works written at any time by any composer.
