About-Face Yay Scale Making Party
About-Face is taking action: Help challenge our culture's obsession with weight on No Diet Day!
You are invited to join us on Friday May 6th to make Yay! Scales! The fabulous Ms. Marilyn Wann, author of the book Fat!So? and Activist Extraordinaire, will teach us how to "hack" our scales to transform them into tools of empowerment. You will walk away with your very own Yay! Scale.
What is a Yay! Scale? It's a standard bathroom scale that is re-worked into a positive tool that, instead of focusing on the weight of the user, compliments her by saying how wonderful she is. Don't you want to see "amazing" instead of a number on your scale? We thought so! This is your opportunity to contribute to About-Face by encouraging positive body image and self-esteem among women and girls.
See how it works here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38tH6Slsmwg
All proceeds from ticket sales will go to support About-Face and their Education into Action Media-Literacy workshops for youth ages 13-18, Take Action workshops, and our organization's web site. Your support will help About-Face to continue to foster our programs that equip women and girls with the tools to resist harmful media messages that affect their self-esteem. We can't wait to see you there!
Tickets: Sliding scale of $20-$40 Space is limited to 20 people, so buy tickets to reserve your spot today! Teenagers and adults welcome.
Parking: Free car and bike parking at the location. Public transport: Church or Castro Muni Metro Stations, walking distance from BART, and tons of other bus lines will get you there!
Big thanks to our sponsors: Chase bank and Berkeley ACE Hardware
