Ms Leona Mitchell with the Metro Chamber Orchestra
The Metro Chamber Orchestra proudly announces Ms Leona Mitchell will join Maestro Philip Nuzzo and the MCO in its season finale on Sunday afternoon, June 26th 2011 at 4:00 PM in St. Ann and the Holy Trinity Church, 157 Montague Street, Brooklyn, New York. This marks Ms Mitchell's first concert in New York in over a decade and her only New York appearance this season.
Leona Mitchell, Soprano Grammy Award winning Soprano, Leona Mitchell has emerged as one of America's most beloved and celebrated Sopranos. Miss Mitchell spent 18 Seasons as a leading Spinto Soprano at the Metropolitan Opera in New York where she essayed many dramatic and lyrical roles such as: Aida, both Verdi Leonora's from La Forza Del Destino and Il Trovatore, Manon Lescaut, Boheme, The Masked Ball,  Madame Butterfly, Liu in Turandot, Madame Lidouine as well as Mozart, and Handelian roles. She has three DVD'S with The Three Tenors: "Ernani" with Luciano Pavarotti, "Turandot" with Placido Domingo and "Carmen" with Jose Carreras. Ms. Mitchell has sung for four of our United States Presidents: Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton. She also sang for George Bush Sr. when he was Vice President. Leona has also sung at some of the world's most prestigious opera houses: The Berlin, Rome, Caracalla, Vienna, Paris, London, Chili, Buenos Aires, Canadian, Mexican, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Santa Fe, Bordeaux, Marseille, Parma and Hamburg companies to name a few. Leona Mitchell sang with most of the major symphony's of the world. Many of the World's Greatest Conductors have worked with Miss Mitchell: Zubin Mehta with The New York Philharmonic, James Levine and The Chicago Symphony, Seji Ozawa, The Boston Philharmonic, and Kurt Mazur with The Israeli Philharmonic. Miss Mitchell is a highly regarded recitalist and has been presented in concert at: New York's Lincoln Center, The Kennedy Center, Geneva, Sydney, Hong Kong, Japan, Tokyo, The Los Angeles Music Center, Australia, The UCLA Concert Series, Ambassador Auditorium, Paris and Australian Centers.

Now in its eighth season, Metro Chamber Orchestra has developed into one of New York City's finest musical ensembles. Founded in 2002 by Artistic Director Philip Nuzzo, MCO is comprised of some of New York City's best freelance musicians, many of whom are veterans of the New York Philharmonic, The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and major Broadway musical productions. Audiences in New York and Boston alike have responded enthusiastically to programming that combines custom arrangements for chamber orchestra wth commissions of entirely new instrumental and vocal works. MCO has performed reductions of Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier" and "Salome," selections from the Jonathan Dove reduction of Wagner's "Ring" (featuring Metropolitan Opera soprano Audrey Stottler), and a highly acclaimed rendition of Debussy's "L' Enfant Prodigue" in a reduction by Philip Hagemann. MCO has also attracted world class soloists, collaborating with New York Philharmonic French Hornist Thomas Jostlein, Oboist Pedro Diaz, Principal Cellist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra Rafael Figueroa, and Metropolitan Opera Soprano Monica Yunis. Commissions and New York premieres include a Clarinet Concerto by Sean Hickey, the Concerto for Contrabass by MCO member Pawel Knapik, and works by Jennifer Higdon and Douglas Kostner.

This concert marks the second collaboration between Ms Mitchell and Maestro Nuzzo. They worked together on "Aida" in Hong Kong. The program will include music by Verdi, Wagner, Strauss, Mozart and the world premiere of Metro Chamber Orchestra's principal bass, Pawel Knapik's Concerto for Double Bass and Orchestra with Mr. Knapik as soloist.
