An Intimate Evening with Charlie Haden
What a life! Born into a musical family that performed hillbilly music on the radio, the extraordinary bassist Charlie Haden has been at the center of the jazz scene for more than half a century. A rare screening of Reto Caduff's acclaimed feature-length Haden documentary "Rambling Boy"
offers fascinating insight and vintage, never-before-seen footage detailing his unlikely, world-shaking journey.
This event also includes an intimate conversation with the legendary bassist, and a series of duets with piano maestro
Alan Broadbent, an essential Haden collaborator in the noir-drenched Quartet West. The group just released an album celebrating the group's 25th anniversary, "Sophisticated Ladies" (EmArcy/Decca), which features Broadbent's exquisite
piano work and orchestral string arrangements. With his unabashed love of beautiful lines and transparent sense of longing, Broadbent is perfectly in tune with Haden's musical sensibility.
