Healthy Homes Advisory Council of Greater Cleveland 6th Annual Symposium
FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC BREAKFAST INCLUDED
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: -Provide strategies, action steps, advocacy networks and tools YOU can use to create and promote Green & Healthy Homes for families and the community.
-Discuss best practices for addressing lead and asthma health disparities.
TARGET AUDIENCE: Building and housing professionals, contractors, inspectors, policy makers, health educators, social workers, teachers, case managers, sanitarians, nurses, medical providers, parents and caregivers
CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS(CEU) 1.5 CEU's are approved for BPI professionals 1.0 CEU's are approved for Nurses & Social Workers 4.5 CEU's are approved for CHES professionals 4.0 CEU's are approved for Registered Sanitarians PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING BEFORE REGISTERING:
Six (6) break-out sessions will be offered during two (2) time slots. Three (3) sessions will be held concurrently. Please select ONLY one(1) break-out session for each timeslot.
The following three (3) break-out sessions will be held during the 10:40 - 11:40 a.m. time slot:
HEALTHY HOMES 101 - Will explain the basic prinicples of what constitutes a healthy home, and the importance of re-educating our communities on the importance of place. Attendees will learn about the tools, resources and agencies available to help community members in achieving a healthy home. Attends can expect real life examples of how policy has changed our approach to safe, decent and affordable housing.
RESOURCES FOR GREENING YOUR HOME - Attendees will learn the steps to lowering energy use and the tools in assesing the need in their home. Attendees will learn the ways and means to create healthier, more sustainable homes for themselves and their families. This session will introduce energy efficiency measures that cut costs and conserve natural resources while protecting human health.
ASTHMA & LEAD...HEALTH DISPARITY, DIAGNOSIS and MANAGEMENT BARRIERS - This session is designed especially for health professionals. Attendees will learn to assess personal, community and health-care related barriers to the dianosis, treatment and management of risk factors pertaining to asthma, lead and other home health hazards. Attendees will also learn about health disparities and social determinates as tehy relate to the pursuit of health equity in environmental issues.
The following three (3) break-out sessions will be held during the 11:50 a.m - 12:50 p.m. time slot:
HEALTHY HOMES 101 - Same material presented as in first session.
IMPLEMENTATION OF GREEN & HEALTHY HOMES - This workshop is designed to share revitalization strategies that promote sustainability in a built out inner-ring suburb of South Euclid. Attendees will learn about the unique challenges facing the inner-ring suburbs as a result of the foreclosure crisis; the City of Cleveland's Green Building Standard; and the basics of the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria. Attendees will receive a number of online & community resources related to Green and Healthy Homes.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT for HEALTHY NEIGHBORHOODS - Attendees will learn how community based organiztions are working in our neighbors to educate families and individuals on the concept that 'Place Matters'. Attendees will leran the direct relationships between communities, organizing and the impact they can have as individuals.
