Event

Past, Present, & Future of Dodge Paddock and Wall Street
Guided Historic Walking Tour of Stonington Borough's Wall Street and Dodge Paddock will depart on Saturday, May 23 from the Stonington Farmer's Market at the Town Dock in Stonington Borough.  This special event will accompany the first of a series of pop-up exhibits that will be displayed monthly at the SVIA's farmer's market on Saturday mornings.
A group of three expert guides will lead a multifaceted walking tour of historic Wall Street (Shinbone Alley) and the site of the States Pottery, now managed by the Avalonia Land Conservancy.
Archaeologist Dr. Russell Handsman has been studying the stoneware potteries of New London County for several years, tracing out their histories through artifacts excavated from Pequot Indian sites dating to the late 18th century. During the walk he will focus on what is known about the States pottery in Stonington and the protection of that site's archaeological potential.
Beth Sullivan is a naturalist, educator, and conservationist.  For the past three years Beth has served as the Town Chair for Stonington within the Avalonia Land Conservancy of Southeastern Connecticut and as such has been actively working on the stewardship and positive management of its many preserves, including the Dodge Paddock and Beal Preserves in Stonington Borough.   Beth will discuss the goals of a recent grant jointly awarded to Avalonia and Mystic Aquarium for the restoration of the preserve after the severe damage caused by superstorm Sandy.
Beth Moore is the museum manager at the Stonington Historical Society and has studies the history of Dodge Paddock and Wall Street in depth.  She loves local history and is especially fascinated with the confluence of archaeology, african american heritage, and conservation that come together in this unique and fascinating site.
