2nd Annual Grillin' for Grass - 2015 Chicken BBQ Fundraiser
Help a historic Allentown neighborhood gem! Join the Days Park Block Club and Elmwood Village Charter School for our 2nd Annual Weidner's Chicken BBQ fundraiser. All proceeds will be donated to the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, restricted for the rejuvenation and maintenance of the park. Last year's success enabled tree trimming, which was vital to help future grass grow.  This year we look forward to soil amendments, seed planting and a large flower garden redesign and planting. The more we can raise, the more beautiful and ever lasting we can make the park!

Meals can be picked up to go, or stay and enjoy dinner in the park with your neighbors - we will be grilling on site this year! Tables and chairs, beverages and desserts, and activities for kids will be available.  Or, pack a picnic blanket and relax with the family!

A vegetarian meal option is available (cold salads platter). Please note this in your ticket purchase.

In the event of rain, all activity will be moved inside Elmwood Village Charter School.

Don't forget your ticket/proof of purchase the day of to redeem your meal.  Sorry, no purchases can be refunded (it's all for a good cause!).

A tidbit about Days Park:
Frederick Law Olmsted began his work for Buffalo in 1868. In April 1887, Olmsted submitted plans for Days Park. A unique feature to the park was a central fountain encircled by a wrought iron fence. Unfortunately, the original Days Park fountain was removed in 1923 and in subsequent decades the neighborhood, and the park, had been lost to blight and crime.  However, since the late 1980's the dedicated members of Days Park Block Club have raised funds by selling baked goods, plants and t-shirts, and procuring federal, city, county, and state funds and private donations. With this, flower gardens and trees were planted, new historic street lights installed, and a Victorian fountain and wrought-iron fence again graces the center of the park. The restoration is ongoing, with new gardens at the east end of the park planted in the spring of 2003 and continued care and maintenance provided by the residents, in partnership with the Conservancy.
