Schick Machine
In The Paul Dresher Ensemble's SCHICK MACHINE, virtuoso percussionist Steven Schick inhabits a sonic playground in which every object and surface is 'alive.' This extraordinary venture, created in collaboration with writer/director Rinde Eckert and mechanical sound artist Matt Heckert, pushes the limits of contemporary performance with visual and technological magic, dazzling musical skills and huge invented musical instruments. As Schick - one of the world's foremost contemporary percussionists and a founding member of Bang On A Can - explores the stage, he weaves fanciful stories into astonishing encounters with noise-making sculptures, everyday objects and one-of-a-kind instruments. Schick "turns percussion into a benign and exquisitely elegant form of martial art." The Advertiser (Australia)
