Music of the Dark: Jewish Refugee Composers in America
Filmmakers were not the only exiles and emigres that made Los Angeles their home. Many of Europe's top composers left under similar circumstances.  Steven Ovitsky will focus on three who made new lives for themselves by composing for films: Max Steiner, Franz Waxman and Miklos Rozas.

If their names aren't familiar, their music is. Steiner, who was born in Vienna, composed the music for such film favorites as Casablanca and Gone with the Wind. Rozas music can be heard in two of the film's we're screening, and Franz Waxman is the composer by the music for Rebecca, Sunset Boulevard, and many more.
