Photographing Birds in Flight
Photographing birds in flight is easier than you may think. Six years ago, Richard Pavek began studying how bird wings develop lift and thrust. To do that, he needed to get clear, sharp photographs of birds in flight. This forced him to re-think the old photographic maxims he learned years ago and develop new techniques. In the first part of this session, he shares these techniques and discusses focusing issues, shutter speeds, stabilizing without a tripod and pitfalls to avoid. The presentation includes a PowerPoint presentation of example images from his collection. Following the discussion, we will go into the field and practice photographing birds in flight. Guide: Richard Pavek Event location: Dance Palace Community Center, 503 B Street, Point Reyes Station What to bring: Your digital SLR camera and your telephoto lenses, your camera manual, hiking boots, warm clothing, water. (Leave your tripod in the car, you won't be needing it.) Limited to 15 participants
