Our Native Grasses
California has an amazing diversity of native grasses and exotic grasses. Poaceae (the Grass Family) is the 2nd largest plant family in California. On this Mt. Tamalpais walk participants should see at least 35 to 40 species of grasses. Join Ashley Ratcliffe, a specialist in California native grasses, as she helps you discover the world of grasses. Carolyn Longstreth will join the walk to identify birds. The walk will take place through many different habitats: wet meadow, riparian, serpentine, woodland, and chaparral. Guides: Ashley Ratcliffe and Carolyn Longstreth Carpool from: Dance Palace Community Center, 503 B Street, Point Reyes Station, at 8:15 am Event Location: Rock Springs Parking Lot, Mount Tamalpais. What to bring: Binoculars; hand lens; hiking boots; warm clothing; lunch; water Limited to 15 participants Target bird or species information: California Native Grasses, and birds that live in them.
