Event
Tomales Bay and the Coastal Zone
This cruise, on an ocean-going boat skippered by Tom Baty, will start in Marshall on Tomales Bay. Tomales Bay is an extremely productive estuary where tens of thousands of scoters, scaup, bufflehead, brant, loons, and grebes feed during the winter and spring migration. This cruise will give participants an appreciation for the variety of waterbirds found in the bay. If conditions permit, the cruise will continue out into the open ocean, with seabirds and marine mammals as the goals. But the trip may have to be confined to Tomales Bay if wind or swells make it impossible to go very far out in the ocean.
